Biological Environment


Upper intertidal: limpets (such as Siphonaria virgulata), periwinkles (Nodilittorina unifasciata) and small barnacles (Chamaesipho column).

Mid intertidal: large barnacle Tesseropora rosea and a variety of gastropods.

Lower intertidal: turfing algae (Corallina officials) and the solitary ascidian Pyura stolonifera.

Subtidal: kelp (Ecklonia radiata), patches of coralline turfing macroalgae, non-coralline (fleshy) algae, foliose red or brown macroalgae, sessile invertebrates (such as sponges, hydroids, bryozoans and ascidians) and bare areas with only a covering of encrusting coralline algae (CEE & Woodward-Clyde 1996).
